More than 900 mixers and shakers muddled and swizzled their way through a smorgasbord of flavour sensations at the BBC Good Food Summer Show.
World-renowned cocktail gurus Tom Soden and Frankie Campopiano of Sweet&Chilli led amateur mixologists through a series of 25 sold-out ‘Cocktails At Home’ workshops, running across the five days of the show at the NEC Birmingham, visited by more than 100,000 food and drink lovers.
It was an adventure Frobishers got stuck into too – the lids were popped on a mouthwatering 1,776 bottles of our juice, in flavours including mango, cranberry, pineapple, grapefruit, apple and orange.
With Diageo’s leading spirit brands in one hand and juices and other unusual ingredients in the other, Tom and Frankie demonstrated the science behind cocktails with a recipe repertoire that included a lip-smacking Gordon’s Gin Sour, a fruity Smirnoff Sangria and a cockle-warming Captain Morgan’s Spiced Rum Punch.
With all the mixing kit provided, as well as empty takeaway bottles, cocktail cadets learnt how to explore their cupboards and larders at home. The idea was to unearth experimental flavour combinations of sweet, sour and savoury so they felt prepped and confident to make cocktails at home like the experts.
