From Pub Landlord to Juice Pioneer
Back in 1969, Mike Dowdeswell swapped pouring pints for pressing apples. After years at sea with the Merchant Navy and running other people’s pubs, he dropped anchor and bought The Anchor Inn. One day, a local cider maker showed up with a fresh offer: apple juice, straight from the press.
Now, Mike wasn’t one to sip quietly on an idea. He spotted a juicy gap in the market for quality juice. He found a bottler, handed out cases to nearby pubs, and boom: the fruit juice buzz began. The people wanted more. So, Mike gave them orange. Then pear. Then pineapple. Juice by juice, a range was born. Mike needed to pick a ripe name.
So, he flipped through the BT directory and there it was: Frobisher
A London telephone exchange that was the directory for the prestigious Earls Court, which had just the right ring. Frobishers. Fruity. Fresh. Fancy. It stuck.
Fast forward to 1999: Frobishers became a limited company. In 2009, a new crew in Exeter took the helm. The juice stayed top notch, the brand got a glow-up, and today we bottle across four flavour-packed ranges.
The brand evolved further when we launched our Build-a-Box website feature.
In 2022 we joined the UN’s Race to Zero through the SME Climate Commitment. Because if we’re not making things better, what’s the point? We’re serious about sustainability, and we’ve got the science to prove it.
This year, things are getting even zestier. We’re growing our team at Frobishers HQ in Exeter — more brilliant minds, more bold ideas, more people who really get juice (and get why it matters). We’ve rolled out a sharp new look and a website to match — cleaner, louder, prouder. Designed to make building your dream juice box easy.
